The other day I was driving up Birch Run road a few days after the storm in June 2015 hit. Trees, landscaping, homes, roofs, pole barns all up turned. Power outages from Otisville to Birch Run. But, it also brought a community together...in helping people. Those without power were given free pizza and water from local business in Otisville. Consumer and DTE workers were welcomed all along Birch Run Road. It takes something like this to show others what a great country we live in. Glad to be part of a good area, Genesee and Saginaw counties. That's Michigan!

The Birch Run Outlets is a great place to shop! The Outlets is an outdoor shopping center that is located across the street from the Expo Center. They have just about every store you can think of, from shoe stores to home decor. There are several great places to stop and get a bite to eat while spending your day shopping. They even have a huge lounge to rest in at the customer service center. Next time you are in town, the outlets are a must see place.

I grew up in Birch Run and Burt and I always loved the small town/farm town feel. I graduated from Birch Run High and had my first job at Rueckerts Grocery, now the location of the Family Dollar. Things have sure changed, but they have also remained the same. When I was a child, my family would watch the Fourth of July fireworks from Buster Brown Park which is part of the site of the current Prime Outlet Mall. I remember when the McDonalds opened and I worked several retail jobs at the outlets while I attended college. Birch Run has grown a lot in the last 20-25 years, but one thing has remained. It still has that small town feel. Once you step away from the stop lights and bright lights of town you can still see the local families working together and growing. You will see farmers working the land or a volunteer fireman helping a neighbor, teachers taking pride in their students and parents bringing their children to the Fourth of July parade. So while this is a community that has grown and changed they have also held on to the values that make this HOME.
