South Lyon, MI Real Estate, Homes For Sale, School & Area Information

It is hard to believe that I have lived in the South Lyon area for over 40 years! I almost choke when I say 40 years; it makes me feel so very old...which I do not feel and will not accept. I first lived in the lovely town of Livonia, and my family moved when I was in the 9th grade. When my friends heard where we were moving, they teased me about moving to the country. Questions about whether or not I would have pigs and cows were frequent. It seemed so far away from all of my friends, but I quickly made new ones when I started school at South Lyon High.

South Lyon was a one-traffic-light town at that time. The years flew by as I graduated and became an "adult". Although my first apartment was not in South Lyon (not many were available at that time), I continued to call South Lyon my home. I was active in community sports, playing softball and volleyball. When I started working in real estate, the South Lyon area was my main focus, and I was proud to purchase my first home in downtown South Lyon.

As I married and the kids came, the house quickly became too crowded, so we moved to the "country". Yes, it was still in the South Lyon area - only two miles from downtown -- but technically Lyon Township. I always thought my children would graduate from South Lyon High, but we were delighted when they opened the new high school, South Lyon East. My son was proud to be in the first graduating class of South Lyon East, and my daughter followed three years later. The education they received has directed both of them to college where they are working hard to get their selected degrees.

I asked my daughter the other day if she would live in South Lyon after she graduated from college, and her answer was simple: "where else would I live?" I suppose the only thing that could lure us away from our roots in South Lyon would be a house on a sunny beach with powder white sand...but frankly, if that doesn't happen, my family and I are staying right here!
