In the 1960s, a local named Floyd Templin built a dam on the Prairie River to create what is now known as Lake Templene. Lake Templene is a man made lake in Sturgis, Michigan within St Joseph County that is actually four lakes. Lake Templene with around 1000 acres, Camel Lake with around 34 acres, Sauger Lake with around 34 acres and Sylvan Lake with 34 acres. The lake as a whole is an All Sport Lake. The best way to describe these lakes is that Lake Templene is a long horizontal lake. On the northeast side of the lake is a pop out that is Camel Lake, on the southeast part of the lake opposite of Camel Lake is a pop out that is Sauger Lake and on the east side and upper area is Sylvan Lake. The lake has an association and hosts Bass Tournaments throughout the year. There are high end homes, both year round and vacation homes all around the lake.

There are several major cities that are within two and a half hours of the lake: Chicago, IL 2 hours and 28 minutes, Detroit, MI 2 hours and 29 minutes, Elkhart, IN 54 minutes, South Bend, IN 1 hour and 4 minutes, St Joseph, MI 1 hour and 28 minutes, and New Buffalo, MI 1 hour and 30 minutes.
