Whatever the season, take some time to walk along the Cass River in downtown Vassar. This trail segment built on a former railroad corridor is the most scenic stretch. In spring, flowers planted and wild, line the paved path. Birdsong fills the air. In the summer, the leaves and brush fill in to give the feel of walking in the woods. Fall always brings much color. Winter encourages brisk walks in the fresh air. Located just west of the Cass River one block south of Huron St. I hope you take a moment to enjoy.

In June 2015, The Vassar Theatre was voted the best movie theater in Mid-Michigan through WNEM TV5's Top 5 on 5 poll. It also received best theater in 2014 under the ownership of Tim O'Brien. Decorated in the art deco style, it opened its doors in late 1937 with Barbara Stanwyck in "Stella Dallas". With reasonable prices, friendly faces, movie goers will surely enjoy their experience at Vassar Theatre.

Vassar is an old logging town quietly tucked in between Saginaw and Caro. In days of old, the logs would roll down the mighty Case River to the lumber mill to be processed. The hotel still stands across the street from the river, although it is currently vacant. In its day, it housed many a visitor. The Old Cinema is still up and running with that back to the past feeling but showing new movies for your enjoyment. Riverfest is held during the summer with downtown being shut off for the annual car show. Bring your walking shoes! Cars are lined up from the top of the hill, down to the river and side streets in between. Small town pride beams where ever you look.

Up north living close to home! Vassar has the small town charm, the feeling that you are up north without the drive. The beautiful Cass River (some of the best small mouth bass fishing in the state) where the Riverfest (a canoe race) is held every August. There is an outdoor sport's complex that has several basketball courts (covered for all weather activity which also doubles in the winter time as a hockey rink). A small town farmer's market is held all summer as well as free concerts in the park as well as the library. There is a great walking trail, quiet subdivisions, or live outside of town and have your own deer hunting land/park double as your yard! If small town living is for you, consider Vassar as your new home. One of my favorite activities in Vassar is the pumpkin roll in the fall. The kids used to roll pumpkins down the hill as a prank in past years, so Vassar decided to close the hill to traffic and have a pumpkin roll every fall. It is GREAT fun!
