One of the great things about downtown Rockford is all the unique one of a kind shops. We love the Rockford Cheese Shop. Not only are the cheesemongers incredibly knowledgeable about their craft and adept at helping you select the perfect cheese, but they do it with such patience as they continue to hand you slices of delicious cheese. You can also pick up charcuterie, Marcona almonds, breads, jams, and other wonderful treats to get a gathering started right. If you haven't visited yet, it might be time.

Looking for a great bar to hang out and eat some good bar food in a very small town outside of Rockford? Come on out to the Grattan Township Bar. Just about 10 minutes east of Rockford, this bar is a true find. The vibe is definitely Irish, and the staff and patrons are definitely friendly. If you pop into the Grattan Bar, you will want to come back soon.

Looking for a unique place to have a date night dinner, take the family for lunch or just to have an amazing appetizer while sitting out by the Rogue River on a nice day? The Green Well in Rockford is a sister restaurant of their location on Cherry Street and has amazing food and drinks too! The location can't be beat and the ambiance is second to none.
  • Pickerel Lake is probably one of the most beautiful lakes in West Michigan. Tucked back in rural Rockford off Ramsdell Road, it is a lake you must pay a visit. It boasts a wooden trail in the middle of the lake so visitors can fish or just take a nice romantic walk. You will see turtles and lots of fish. It backs up to a natural preserve so there really aren't any residential homes on Pickerel Lake. So bring your fishing poles and/or walking shoes and come enjoy a really nice piece of nature.
  • If you are looking for a great camp to send your kids to next summer, look no further than Camp Roger. Located in Rockford across from Bostwick Lake, it's a summer camp like no other. It has its own private lake (Little Bostwick Lake) and " town square" hidden in the woods. They even offer home school camps during the school year! Camp Roger is very Christian based and my kids went this year for a whole week and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I would highly recommend it. Even though I did miss my kids a lot!
  • Rockford, MI
Pickett Park is another best kept secret in the Rockford area. It has a great dog park right in the middle of downtown Rockford. My dog loving neighbor hasn't even been there yet! It boasts two fenced in areas for small dogs and large dogs. They get to roam around and run and get to have fun with other pets. Our dog Missy loves going there. It's located just south of 10 Mile Road right by the river. Maybe I will see you there!
  • The Upper Rogue is the perfect river for all types of water enthusiasts young and old and is perfectly suited for an easy paddle during any time of the day. Depending on the current water flow rates, you can plan for a three to four hour paddle to Rockford from the 11 Mile Road drop in site. Pack some refreshments and get ready to relax! This stretch of the river is calm, has beautiful scenery and is full of wildlife with little to no challenges with the exception of planning a trip right after a storm where you may encounter fallen limbs in the shallower parts.

Directions to the Drop-In Site: 131 to exit 97. Go west to Jewell Avenue and turn right. Go about one mile to 11 mile road and turn left. The Drop-In Site is about a quarter mile on your right. If you passed the bridge then you have gone too far.

Luton Park is a family friendly multi-use park with 9.7 miles of interconnected trails. The park features a native prairie, pines, hardwoods, marshes and three bridge crossings over Rum Creek. Luton Park trails were designed for mountain-biking and have made the park a well-known regional attraction for this use. Hiking, trail running, bird watching, cross country skiing and snow shoeing are also popular activities. The trails are closed to motorized use and equestrians and are also closed to night riding since all Kent County Parks are open only from 7:00 a.m. to sunset. All trails are accessed by the main trailhead parking area off 10 Mile Rd. A great find in Rockford.

The Rockford Dam is one of West Michigan's favorite destinations. Located in the heart of downtown Rockford, the dam is surrounded by bridges and walkways to see the running waters at all angles. It's a great fishing spot, a popular place for photos, or simply an area to relax. Just off from the dam you can find entertainment in the summer and several restaurants and stores to shop and browse. There is even a kayak and canoe rental nearby so visitors can experience the Grand River up close. Don't jump in. As cute as the turtles are, they won't rescue you.
  • The swim beach at Myers Lake in Rockford has grassy banks with a sandy area at the water's edge and a good sand base in the water. There is no charge to use the beach at Myers Lake Park. A changing facility with restrooms is available between the parking lot and the beach. The shoreline offers a great spot to wade in or do some fishing but it's not allowed near the swim area. Have a picnic. Take a swim. Enjoy the playground. There's even an open shelter that is free and available on a first come first serve basis. Summer is almost here!
