Most people all over the country know about Frankenmuth, MI. I have told people where I live while on vacation, and they immediately say, "oh the Christmas town or the German town." Some people know it for the Zehnder's or Bavarian Inn restaurants. I want to tell you what it is really like to be a local in a very high traffic tourist town. The immediate feeling is security in the growing community, because there are jobs galore in the shops and restaurants. The schools are in high demand for people wanting to enroll their children, and the parks and recreation are top-notch. This is a clean, clean town. The city designs the landscaping on a scale higher than most resorts in the summer, and it's like driving through a Christmas wonderland in the winter. When the tourist times are slow, the locals can enjoy all of the niceties that are paid for by the tourists. I mean, how many towns put up their own ice skating rink for the winter months? I think it is a privilege to live here, and based on the rising listing prices averaging $200 a square foot, that is certainly the case.

When you think about dining in Frankenmuth, you are immediately drawn to Bavarian Inn and Zehnders for the traditional Family Style Chicken Dinner. I recommend you make your way just a little off the beaten path (Main Street), head down to Jefferson Street and make a visit to Slo' Bones BBQ Smokehaus! This restaurant has only been around a few years (about 2014), but they have proven to be a staple here in "Chicken Town."

They have held their own and stayed in a location that has had frequent restaurant turnover. They have over 10,000 followers on Facebook with many out-of-town guests vowing to return. Locals enjoy having this casual restaurant at their fingertips, especially on nights when the kids eat free...which is every Monday by the way!

Frankenmuth's Memorial Park is a little gem. In this location alone, you can indulge yourself in seasonal activities. In the summertime, you can take the little loves in your life to the Jaycee-sponsored splash pad and playground. Also in the summer, the Women's Club hosts summer Sunday evening concerts in the park with a concession stand with proceeds going back to the community.

The 40 acres of the park provide rolling hills, a disc golf course, and serene, quiet spaces for a family picnic. During the winter months, family and friends can spend the day sledding down the hilly park in the snow. This park is also the perfect place to watch the Frankenmuth Fireworks in July.

Frankenmuth is a small town with lots of unique places to visit. The community is not only a tourist location, it is a place to raise a family or retire. During the year there are many events occurring in the city, and it's not just Christmas. Some annual festivals are the following: Snowfest, 80's Fest, World Expo of Beer, Bavarian Fest, Summer Music Fest, Oktoberfest, and Car Show.
There are many localized restaurants that provide a unique dining experience. The shopping experience in the River Place or on Main Street boasts unique gifts for your family and friends.

What a delightful find in the heart of Little Bavaria! While there are abundant choices for everyone's taste and budget, my favorite place to eat in Frankenmuth is the Prost Wine & Bar Charcuterie. When you step inside this unique establishment, you'll notice that you're in a different world. A world that you might see in magazine articles from New York or Boston. From the unique and stylish bar, the large wooden trestle style table in the center of the dining room, to the exciting outdoor patio, you are destined to have a memorable visit.

Whether visiting for a crafted cocktail, selected wines or a simple appetizer to a full meal, you won't be disappointed. The menu offers a variety of meat and cheese boards, tasteful appetizers, grilled panini and unique salads. The olive oil and balsamic glaze is a great start to your visit. For those of us who require gluten free options, Prost does a great job of providing substitute breads that are just as tasty as regular bread. All in all, I highly recommend a visit to my new favorite place in Frankenmuth!

One of the greatest communities in Michigan is Frankenmuth. People come from all over the world to experience its charm and the constant activities ranging from the Bavarian Festival, Balloon Fest, one of the best car shows in the state (if you haven't been to this, you need to add it to the calendar), Beer Fest, Snow Sculptures, Cooking Contests, and even a Dog Bowl (one of my favorites! What fun to see all of the different breeds of dogs competing in various events, and never has a town so welcomed our beloved furry family members! It is great fun to just walk downtown in Frankenmuth, take a ride down the river on a peaceful electric boat (they even have a wine and chocolate tour), celebrate your birthday at Zehnder's or the Bavarian Inn and enjoy the authentic German cuisine (one of our family traditions) and just feel like you are one of the tourists. Living here gives you that vacation feel all year round! Come and be part of the charm of this unique community with many living options from large family homes to retirement communities.
